Chiropractic Techniques
These 2 techniques are the main manual techniques taught at university. The “cracking” sound sometimes produced by these very specific and safe adjustments, contrary to what most people believe, is caused by a change in the pressure of the joint and formation and then audible collapse of a nitrogen bubble. This process is called a cavitation. A similar cavitation happens in nature in the strike of a pistol shrimp. The cavitation itself has little or no therapeutic effect.
The therapeutic effect comes from the movement of the joint and the associated changes in neurology. The aim of an adjustment is to restore ideal movement and alignment of the spine and limbs to relieve pain and prevent re- occurrence of injuries. These techniques are very comfortable and often people feel better quite quickly, which in part is due to an endorphin release as the body begins to heal itself.

The method applies the law of ‘inertia’ by using segmental drop pieces of the table to adjust joints of the spine, pelvis and peripheral joints. Many people enjoy this technique as it gets a similar effect to a manual adjustment without the cracking sound!
